Think It. Make It. Podcast Episode #011 – CNC Journey From Zero Experience With John DeGirolamo

After upgrading from a Stepcraft D-Series to a Q-Series CNC system, John went from absolutely no CNC experience to using his machine for his work in many different applications. He makes a lot of use out of attachments on the machine such as a 3D Touch Probe, Drag Knife, Hot Wire Foam Cutter and more. We also discuss marquetry and how to use software and a CNC to do this type of projects.

  1. What’s that red cylinder ram mount setup in the pics? It looks like maybe air compressed horizontal clamp of some sort? Any more info on that? Looks pretty straight forward with 80/20 extrusion. As always your Podcast are great and I pick up little things in the background when you’re interviewing someone.

    • Hi Marlin. I asked John and here was his response, ” I call that a “porta press”. It’s a little invention where are use the 8020 stock and machined some of their pieces to except and hold that hydraulic ram. I’ve made 15 of those for a company to demonstrate the breaking point of their adhesive. You place a wooden sample which hasBeen bonded into the press and let the person apply hydraulic pressure until it breaks, a gauge registers the pressure it took.”
